I began to talk with my hands more as it helps me break up the blocks in my speech and helps keep me relaxed. I also try to speak softly whenever possible because when I get excited I tend to talk faster and become unfocused on speaking. I wouldn’t be ashamed of your stutter, as it might feel embarrassing to stutter in front of people from time to time. If you let people know you stutter, they will (for the most part) be more patient with you. The only way to ever really limit the exposure is to attend speech therapy and learn/practice techniques of breaking up the blocks in your speech. not speaking as a way to limit the exposure to your stutter is the worst mistake to make. I did it all throughout high school and when I got a job where I had to collaborate with others i was extremely quiet/shy for months.
