Freedom, this is my second attempt at responding. The other lengthy response was lost to a iPhone glitch. I hope I can successfully reconstruct what I said. First, you owe it to other, younger stutterers to pass along your many tips. I can’t imagine being in a speaking profession, such as the law, and dealing with stuttering. Were you always a trial attorney? In the military we’re you in the Jag corps? I’m the widow of a career Naval jet carrier pilot and occasionally he had collateral duty as the squadron legal officer. How did you fare in the military as a stutterer? During my university days, before I graduated, I was scared that I’d have to compete professionally in psychology. Marrying Dean, I never HAD to have a career. I hadn’t even graduated when we married, he was a bachelor officer with 9 years in service and was 7 years my elder. After retiring from the Navy he earned an MBA to add to his Computer System Management degree from the Naval PostGraduate Institute at Monterey. Dean was a wonderful man. He was never embarrassed to present me to his military friends. When he began his next career in Municipal finance, he always presented me at conferences and socially. He was never ashamed of me. I had a mild-moderate stutter and I still remember with horror. the looks on the faces of people who had no idea I was a stutterer if a stutter broke-through. Let me know what you think of Dr. Maguire’s videos. I’m over the moon with the discovery of the neurological basis of stuttering. My stutter was released through psychotherapy because it was emotional. Dr. Maguire takes a multi-facet approach and recommends speech therapy, psychological therapy as well as peer support. Please continue in the Reddit group to give your tips/ hints to others. You must have mastered this puzzling disability. Best, Sue
