I don't know that people should expect that they can just totally fix a stutter. I'm 44 and have stuttered all my life. I went to speech therapy all through school and it did nothing to help me. What did help was self-confidence and just practice talking to people. When I was in my late teens and 20s, I was petrified to call people on the phone. And because I was scared, when I did, I was super disfluent. After living on my own and being forced to make calls over and over, I've mostly gotten over the anxiety that comes from having to call somewhere. There's still a bit of it there, but I try to force it down and not feel the tightening in my chest that I know makes me stutter way worse than normal. I do think that everyone should try different therapies, but there's still no "fix" for stuttering. Some people progress more than others. You might never know that Samuel L Jackson stuttered... But a stutterer can probably tell Joe Biden does, if they're paying attention. And of course, many of us never fully get over it.
