I agree with /u/EpicHamMan's theory and am curious as to what syntax of English you're speaking. English is a very versatile language and often times non-native speakers will have quirks that are grammatically incorrect but still get the message across. For example, "put on the light" vs "turn on the light". Maybe if you're speaking in this syntax too, you feel you have more control over the language and can speak from a safe place and stutter less.
