So as a 24 year old male I would say to make friends, especially genuine friends, you need to be able to tell them that sometimes you stutter so that when you are telling a good story, or making a joke etc.(essentially building a rapport) it doesn't ruin your self-esteem or hinge the friendship. All of my friends know I stutter sometimes and I am obviously not a fan of stuttering in front of people but it something you will have to deal with unfortunately because there is apparently no cure for stuttering. Also, when you tell people you stutter you will also determine who is and who isn't your friend based on their reaction - but I've never told someone I stutter and they were appalled or shocked or thought it was reprehensible.
