This used to happen to me in school all the time. When somebody looks confused after meeting me I usually do an over-the-top voluntary stutter with obvious repetitions to make it clear I have a speech disorder. Avoiding eye contact when blocking is a bad habit I’ve had my entire life and that didn’t help either, so make sure to keep looking at them so they know you’re still ‘present’
