The higher the perceived stakes (win or lose), the more stutter. You were already settled into your old job. You weren't life-or-deathing your way through because you'd already established your worth, stuttering in relation to your work utility, and familiarized your peers with your condition. Now, you're worried people will associate your worth and productivity with your stutter because those people haven't gotten to know the relational properties of these factors. You perceive your worst case scenario, the highest possible stakes, ending up in being fired or banished from the group socially. In reality, you won't get fired or banished for your stuttering, nor promoted for your fluency. There won't exist a worst case scenario without an equivalent positive best. Stuttering is a fickle thing. We delude ourselves into thinking of fluency as our highest human state, but it's a baseline that isn't even considered by others.
