I agree. I think this comes down to blocking and stuttering freely. There are times where I block for almost 20-30 seconds. It's important to start conversations by telling people you're a person who stutters. From there, you should always take your time and block as freely as possible. For people who are more severe like myself, I have found community + speech therapy really helpful. Community helps you build acceptance and speech therapy teaches you techniques that help you get through the block. People who stutter should never reduce themselves because of their speech. Avoidance is a function of anxiety oftentimes and I've always been told to not avoid words I want to say as it makes my stutter worse. We really have to get into the habit of saying exactly what we want, even if it takes us a while to get it out. And even more important, it's important to tell people we stutter so they give us the time we need, because we deserve it just like anyone else! :)
