The phone can certainly be one of the hardest things when you stutter, and when getting a job is on the line it's double the stress and anxiety. I recently went through all of this when my girlfriend decided that she was moving with or without me. I left a job I was good at, at least in the context of the work we did, the company I worked for was owned by my brother. I suddenly found myself having to apply for jobs and do phone interviews and such for the first time. I'll just openly admit that I do not think I did very well. In the end, I got a job in a Walmart dot com sorting facility (4+ weeks after putting in the application online btw). The main and most important thing is, when this stuff happens you dust yourself off and keep going forward and try to forget about those experiences where your lack of fluency got the best of you. When you step outside your comfort zone it is going to happen, that's just life living with what we live with. You have these transitional periods in life and that are just the worst, but it does get easier. In the process of being hired by Walmart you can expect a few things phone call - probably from someone you can barely understand, I don't know about you but it makes it harder to communicate when dealing with someone with some crazy accent. They will want you to come to the location for a tour. orientation - you're in a room, probably with a few other new hires going over mind numbing crap, and they go around asking everyone for an introduction. This sucks, all I could manage to do was forcefully say "my name is <<my name>>... I uhh I ahh stutter" while gesturing at my throat and chest. No worries, dust yourself off, move forward as pridefully as possible because hey, you got the job! Day 1 - more mind numbing stuff that you have to try to pay attention to, leading to more moments you may have to speak in front of these strangers.. It's just hard when you're living inside your own head like we tend to do. One thing I will say is your managers/leads are professional, and kind. You need anything go to them. Walmart has a conduct policy that is taken very seriously. Any unkind spoken or unspoken behavior is frowned upon at the company. When you see their pre-shift rituals you'll realize just how sickeningly upbeat they are \*gags\*
