Thankfully I've been lucky & have never been unable to do anything I wanted due to having a stutter. The only thing that has ever stopped me in the past is myself. If you're anything like me, you have your good days & your bad. I did have to read a large paragraph for speaking fluency, but it happened to be a very good day when I had to do that & you would never have guessed I stutter. I will say though, that we do have stutterers come through BMT (I've met about 6 or so in the year and a half I've been doing it), and all but one of them have graduated & gone on to be Airmen. In regards to possibly joining any branch of the military, just do it if it's something you decide you really want. I've avoided opportunities or situations in the past because I decided I couldn't do it before even trying. By putting myself outside of my comfort zone, I feel like it's significantly lessened the severity of my stutter because I don't stress about it nearly as much as I used to.
