My favorite is when people do this after I stammer (to be fair it's not always meant maliciously, but it still sucks) but they will also tell me that I don't have a stutter if I mention it. Yes I do. I would know better than anyone else possibly could. It just usually manifests as a block stutter, *but I also get repetition as evidenced by the fact that you mimicked it and had a good giggle.* It is not comforting or reassuring to have people tell me that I don't have a stutter. I understand their intent is to say that they don't "notice" it, but I notice it and never have the luxury of ignoring it. I change how I talk every day, in every conversation. I struggle with it and try and learn and practice tricks to work around it to make it so I can more effectively speak without getting caught up on the world *apple* or *guitar* for 40 seconds. I am not as 'smooth' in delivering jokes or stories as I would be if I could just speak the way I think, with the intonation and the timing and the wording. So y-y-yes I have a stutter, thanks for being a dick about it and mocking that and making me even more self conscious about the way I sound. Super cool.
