Sorry for the long post, but that's the main point I wanted to get across. For day to day experiences, if you have trouble doing something, let them know that you stutter and you'll try to get it out, write it down if you have to. As you said, most people are patient and kind, but when you see people who laugh, you need to know that these laughs are unconscious, 9/10 people are not intentionally laughing at you to make you feel bad. It really doesn't mean anything. You feel bad cuz you view stuttering as something that makes you inferior. Why not see it as something good that makes people laugh? Don't we need more laughs in our life? See my post above, once you get rid of that anxiety and stress. It doesn't stop you from making friends at the bar or whatever. You're simply stopping yourself from doing it.
