You're right, it's a contradiction. Some experts call it 'the art of non-doing'. Basically you need to try not to try. In the context of speaking, you shouldn't at all feel like you need to (actively) force words out of your mouth, it should come out naturally (passively). I think it's more difficult to talk about it and easier to feel it when it happens. And we get better at it over time.
