Absolutely not and I would argue the opposite using the examples you gave. Your professors may have been judging your presentation by the content and not the delivery which is fair. If they were in fact giving you an ‘A’ out of pity, why is that a benefit? Surely you would want to earn that grade on merit otherwise the achievement won’t feel genuine. Fair enough with the police though.
