Daughter starting to stutter Hey all, One of my fears, my daughter, 3.5 years old, has started to stutter pretty severely. I’ve had a mild to moderate stutter that’s come and gone my entire 29 years, so I knew it would be a possibility the my kids will inherit it. Started to notice it a few months ago with mild stutters here and there. Thought no big deal and didn’t think too much of it as she’s still learning to speak/pronounce common words. In the past couple of weeks, it has gotten progressively more severe to the point where she will be hung up on certain letters for 10-20 seconds(no exaggeration). She reallly struggles with words start with W. As we were playing is the yard this afternoon, she was wanting to ask me something with her sentence starting with “what”. She struggled for 10-20 seconds while looking at me with a confused expression as to why she can’t get the word out. I know exactly how she feels. Tonight, when I got her all ready for bed and tucked in, I told her as always “good night! I love you!” She replied “night night! Wawawawawawa (for 10 seconds or so), then looks away and says plainly “can’t say it”. Needless to say, as I’m sure fellow stuttering parents can sympathize, that broke my heart into about 1,000 pieces… With a little context/venting out of the way- Parents that have kids that struggle with stuttering, when did you bring your kids to a speech pathologist (if you have yet)? I’m thinking she may be too young, but the severity is making me want to look into getting her help before I originally planned. Anything else you have done to work on their speech with exercises or otherwise? I may just be in panic mode and need to give her some time as she’s still so immature speech wise, but just wanting to make sure I do the best I can for her.
