Holding Back Stuttering is holding back. Immediately you ask youself: ¿Holding back WHAT? ¿What is it we do not want to experience that we hold back with all our strength? I think is our feelings. Our own emotions. Words are just vehicles that carries out our feelings. We do not fear the judging of the words but the judge of ourself. We want to be right so badly because in that case we will finally be aproved. Loved. Then we can let go. That is why when you talk to a dear and trusted friend you tend to stutter less. Because you already has his aproval. We desire to perform excellent on any activity for the same reason. But when we have to show our emotions to someone unknown we dont wanna risk the chance of being judge. So we hide. We try and try but our body betrays us. The channel is closed. It is an automatic defensive response of the body perceiving is underattack. The comedy is that there is no attack. It is just an illusion. If you could see it for what it is, it would instantly dissolve and the stammering gone for good. There would be no reason to hold back.
