The reason why I specifically mentioned school and work is for the exact reason that I hear them speak regularly and for long periods of time (a school year, a semester). In recitations, presentations, in org meetings, in casual talk. I have probably met over 300 classmates and orgmates from primary school to grad school. And that estimate is on the low side. So yeah, I would've expected to meet at least one person who also had a stutter. However, I just found out that that 1% apparently includes child stutterers who eventually grow out of it. Then it makes sense. The percentage of adult stutterers would be lower than that 1%, though.
