I offered something that could *directly address the problem* and is likely to produce favorable results in a much shorter period of time than general therapy or “*hope*”. IMO as a mental health professional, hope can turn into hopelessness when it’s not combined with tangible steps. My steps are *not* more of the same. They are probably completely opposite of things his speech therapists have taught him (because most regular SLPs receive no training in treating stuttering and treat it as if it’s an articulation disorder, increasing the problem). My post also cites numerous appropriately credentialed professionals. My steps require willpower? The first step is to stand in front of a mirror and speak to yourself using a few voluntary repetitions. That is accessible.
