Because of my stutter, I was drawn to computers and software development. Some interviews were very hard because not only was I thinking about a problem, I was simultaneously trying to monitor my speech. I eventually became a Software Development Manager, but after 18 months, I chose to return to being a Sr. Software Engineer. I couldn't manage the stress of oral communication that being an effective manager requires. After I cured my stutter, I became a lead and now I am seriously considering pushing back into management next year. I believe you can be a highly effective software engineer who stutters with only minor to moderate challenges.
