I have largely overcome it. I have never not stuttered. My first words were at aged 3 and from then to up until I graduated from high school, I couldn't string more than a few words together. Graduating high school and not being teased daily helped a great deal. A few years later I got speech therapy again so I went from not being able to say even a sentence fluently to being able to say a few. I'm now 44 and have bad days, but I can live my live largely (edit, probably not "largely" but hopefully you get the drift) stutter free. I still block, I still have repetitions but it's nothing like it was from aged 3 to high school.
