You are not saying it for the benefit of the listener. Most stuttering happens because your body is frantically trying to *avoid stuttering*. It’s like those “Chinese finger traps” (if there’s a better name, I apologize for not knowing). The more you force it, the more stuck you get. When you disclose, this can help *you* stop trying to hide it. It also will get most people to understand, *and patiently wait* when you have silent pauses. Otherwise, on phone, they’ll think it’s a bad connection. Try saying “I have a stutter so you might hear silent pauses. (Using a cheerful tone). Now, what can I help *you* with?
