I’m pretty open about it, especially when meeting new people. Most people know what stuttering is, but not many really know what it looks like, so mentioning it off the bat tends to put people (and me) at ease. I enjoy talking about it with people that don’t stutter. I see it as an opportunity to generate understanding and compassion for a group of people that are generally misunderstood. Good for you for stepping outside your comfort zone. The more you push your own boundaries, the larger they become. Getting over the fear and anxiety of social interaction as a person who stutters takes time and work. Keep it up and you might find that you aren’t anxious anymore.
