The thought of moving to a new place, meeting new people, and have new experiences can cause a lot of anxiety. First off, try not to worry so much about moving to the dorm. Now, everyone's experience in a dorm will differ, just as the college experience, but it is what you make of it and try to think of meeting people. Making friends can be just as easy as saying, "hey" to your roommate or hall-mates. You can also join clubs for athletic or academic reasons. You'll have a lot more freedom to be around people you like, or not to be around people you don't like. Getting out of your comfort zone is something that will and should happen. Myself as a person right now is entirely different from high school-me and college-me. Thinking about talking to someone or saying something gave me such anxiety. And to a certain extent, it still does. I introduce talk to strangers, my co-workers, call people on the phone, and go to places. Very rarely does anyone mention anything about my stutter. For instance, this week I've been working with two of my co-workers on a project everyday; I'm for sure they know I stutter, but they've never mentioned it or talked about it and I never told them. Confidence is something that you'll have to gain, but remember that it'll be baby-steps and not a full-sprint. Try to do something out of your comfort zone; talk to your professor after class about a question or comment. Raise your hand to answer a question. Go to the movies and get a ticket. Order food. Most of all, realize this; You will stutter. It will happen. Don't try and hide from communicating. What will happen is that you will lessen the embarrassment of stuttering by talking and conversing. It sounds scary, but it shouldn't be; you'll do fine and then look back and think that you were worried for nothing. We all have struggles. Don't take my advice as not having struggles in my life; I very-much do.
