Try deliberately sliding into the word like saying race as “rrrrrrrrrACE” - it may sound silly but my speech therapist said it won’t bother the average listener. You can also extremely try to slow down your pace as much as you can or/and take a huge breath of air before speaking. If this doesn’t work for you after much practice, please don’t be harsh on yourself, the right person will still care about what you have to say regardless of stuttering!
