To agree with and to add on to what piksel and our Belgian colleague has said, disclosure can be a great way to break that particular ice. You don't have to say "Hi, I'm idiosyncraticmoose and I sutter!", but you should not hide it at all. If you have to introduce yourself in class, that's a perfect time. I did it on the first day of grad school and I'm glad I did. Will it suck and be super awkward? Yup, for the first couple times it will. Once everybody knows, the people who are dicks will not want anything to do with you, which is fine, 'cause they're dicks. Another option is the NSA has a good trucker hat. Slap that on your head and boom. It will also make people around you care less, because they know what is going on, and if you aren't embarrassed about it, they won't be. Final thought: if you do disclose, do NOT apologize as part of it. There is no reason to. None. Full stop.
