Stop stuttering while walking. Anyone can relate? Hello, Recently I have noticed that I don't stutter when I am walking and speaking. My stutter also disappears when my focus is fully on something else while speaking, but especially during physical activities while speaking. I always have/had problems with presentations etc. in school, but there was one presentation where I was fully fluent. And it was during PE lesson where I had to run a coaching session, but first, explain in front of others (there were like 20-30 people) what is the goal of my session etc. I wasn't first so I participated in others' sessions shortly before mine, which may be why I was fully fluent (I was running before shortly before speaking). Maybe I released all the tension from my body. Also, I don't stutter when someone surprises me, i mean situations when i didn't know I will have to speak. My stuttering is not that bad, I speak with people but I don't feel the freedom of speaking because of silent blocks on words I fear. Constant anxiety about speaking. However, sometimes I don't have a block on these words when I forget I fear these words. I pre plan what I will say almost every time and when I decide that any word is hard (mainly long or one that requires loads of mouth movement if that makes sense) Little background: I developed these silent blocks around age 13 during a very stressful time in my life when my dad was coming home drunk, shouting at us and sometimes even beating my mum. These were very traumatic experiences for me. I was so nervous, I remember I was literally shaking from nerves when this situations were happening at my home. Now I am 25, my family situation is okay now which i grateful for but i still suffer from silent blocks where i can get word out. Also i feel strong tension in my body almost all the time even if i dont speak. I am going to the gym and it gives me relieve from this tension for some time but it comes back. In summary, I am wondering if there is any link between this heavy tension I feel and my speaking problem? Can anyone relate to my speaking problems? ps. sorry for my English, its my second language.
