I’m basically a software engineering manager. Client-facing, and spend maybe 30% of my week in calls at various levels. My stutter is pretty mild these days, blocking is my main issue. I’ve developed workaround - words like “yes” are often a problem, so replaced with “sure” or “for sure” without issue 95% of the time. The more difficult calls in terms of general nerves make my speech worse, to be expected. Confidence plays a huge part of how my speech is, so I prepare for meetings slightly more than the average person. There are others where I can “wing it” if it’s advice, “consulting” type conversations. I feel like I have time end a sentence strongly in terms of my speech, so will extend if it’s not gone well. This isn’t always a good idea, and I feel I can sometimes ramble, so am trying to work on saying less but with authority and certainty. Stutter coupled with ADHD (undiagnosed) is not great, but it’s the only life I know.
