Hiya! Welcome!! To answer your question, yes it does have a genetic component. It's not always the case that it runs in the family. Some people are the only in their family who stutters. But it's also not uncommon to hear of it running in a family for 3 or 4 generations. For me it runs in my family on my paternal side. Oldest known stutter is my grandmother. There may be more if I look back further 🤷♂️. But my paternal grandmother also had kids with about guy and his kids don't stutter. My paternal grandfather wasn't a stutter and neither was the other guy. So I guess one of them had a gene that cancelled out the stutter gene so it wasn't expressed.
