Your approach was very effective and certainly could be an example to others. In a way dysfluency isn’t stuttering until there is a struggle NOT to stutter. So called “negative practice,” intentionally trying to stutter is very effective for that reason. Then diving in and speaking, in spite of all the anxiety involved, is critical. Allowing oneself to stutter and keep speaking, as painful as that might be, desensitizes the person over time. Its an amazing achievement—it took a lot of bravery and hard work but you did it.
