Wonderful!! I had the same experience in high school - I began to be open with my stutter, telling people that I would sometimes struggle with words, but that I appreciated their patience and understanding. By grade 10 or so, I found that my peers had generally matured enough to refrain from laughing at me or bullying me. I would always make jokes before a presentation like "well everyone, we all know how this is going to go - wish me luck!" and launch into my presentation. It helped set my peers at ease - I think, because I had acknowledged that it would likely be a long, disfluent presentation and that "well, we're all in this together!", they felt more comfortable as well. Sure, there were still some jerks - but by high school my peers, even those I wasn't really friends with, would generally turn on those bullies and call them out on it.
