Re: kids, the children who grownout of it are usually pretty young (im throwing out random numbers, but lets say ages 3 -7), so it would be more align with the adult numbers that if you as a 5th grader didnt know anyone. And as adult, the more mild the stutter the easier it would be to "get by" in a one or 2 sentence transaction, especially with word substitution. And dont forget we stutterers like to avoid anything that makes us stutter, so you could have crossed paths with more PWS, you just never saw them do it.
