I had an interview last week Wednesday. I stuttered pretty much every other word, and had a handful of long and painful blocks. I spent so much time preparing and taking notes and I knew everything I wanted to say. My answers were solid but my stutter was very pronounced. I was so ashamed. I was convinced they wrote me off instantly. A few days later, my current boss texted me and said “you absolutely smoked the first two candidates they interviewed. Your interview was really strong and you should be proud of yourself” He knew that because he used to work closely with one of my interviewers. Reading that text brought tears to my eyes. If he hadn’t said that, I would’ve seen myself as this total failure. Your interviewer should know that what you say is more important than how you say it. If they’re so concerned with the way you talk, you shouldn’t even want to work for them. Keep after it, you’re doing great. You should be proud of yourself.
