I was a similar situation. When speaking at my home country and with family I can easily substitute words that I get stuck with. If I cant substitute with a word from my mother tongue I’ll use English or another language I know. Most of us speak three languages back home. But when I moved to the U.S. it was extremely difficult. Finding different words for my trouble words was really tough because it’s my third language, and I didn’t have the option of using different languages when I run out of sub words. But overtime in about two years or so I adapted. I could hide my stutter and blend in better wth the crowd. I’m sure you will too. Plz Don’t give up on coming here for work or whatever just cause of ur stutter. It will be difficult at first but things will get better as you will adapt. What I did for adaption might not work for you but I will share as it might be helpful. Back at home I used to focus on just switching the trouble words with another word but for English you have to think bigger, change the whole sentence sometimes. For words that there are simply no substitutes I use body movements, I scratch my head or say ummm... or act like I’m thinking but actually I’m just waiting for me to be able to say the word. I’ve once used h2o for water lol. I still cringe at that moment but hey it got the point across. Some words I purposely miss pronounce in order for me to say it. Like omg fucking good morning!!!! I just remembered this word I hate it . I just can’t say good morning lol. So my solution right now is “aamornin” I say it really fast. People understand it! I work as a bus driver and when people wished me good morning I felt horrible when I couldn’t reply back with good morning lol most of the times by the time I was able to say it they would already be in their seats lol. So this is one of many adaptions “aamornin” works 90% of the time. Tldr; don’t let stuttering hold u back from moving to a English speaking country. You will adapt and find your way. Edit: when giving presentations in school I had to memorize my speech by heart. In order to hide my stutter. Also develop my speech in a way that’d limit my stuttering by avoiding words that are difficult for me. Even when ordering food at McDonald’s or wherever I’ll memorize my order in my head, say it out loud number of times and when I go into the drive thru I’m completely focused and blurt out my order real quick.
