Could trying not to stutter make it worse?

Could trying not to stutter make it worse? Context: I developed a stammer last summer, teenager, development possibly due to increased anxiety (Covid). I have been trying to not stutter as much as possible (in school only, in classes - not with friends/family) since returning to school last September and it has been very tiring (I already have chronic fatigue due to other things). I’ve noticed it’s now been getting much more difficult to prevent stuttering (which doing so already took a lot of energy) and I am wondering if perhaps trying so hard to stop it in the first place could be the reason? I’m aware that thinking too much about your stutter can cause more stuttering so I thought this might be similar. Any advice on this and also on how to broach the subject of stammering with teachers would be appreciated :)
