I think I was aware in kindergarten. It’s as far back as I remember taking special classes that no one else took to meet with a speech pathologist. I remember doing flash cards and we worked on sentences. All up until high school. I definitely stutter the most during high stress meetings, trying to greet someone off the cuff. Certain clusters of hard consonants trip me up like compound alliteration. Stopping and restarting but slowly helps although it can be frustrating as I’m trying to get my message across and it almost feels like there’s urgency which heightens the stress and sometimes makes it worse Friends and family have accepted it. It’s embarrassing stuttering for the first time around someone new or on a date. I typically tell them upfront before meeting them. I think patience is key in making someone feel comfortable enough to pace there words. Unfortunately real world scenarios don’t accommodate that
