Yes. It is because we feel ashamed of being a stutterer so he try to hide it. Even when we are brave enough to try and said the word, our mind-body instantly shut down and create the block to protect ourself of "danger". I stutter saying stutter when I´m not even talking about myself. Just the word stutter makes me uncomfortable. "Speech problem" in contrast it does not just include stuttering but every other speech impediment. So it feels less personal realated and threatening. The problem is that shame and avoidance behaviour are efective ways of perpetuing the issue. One first step to recovery is to know the shame is there and accept or embrace it without restrictions. Once you get used to shame you will no longer feel you need to escape. God bless
